Billing and Fees

Counselling sessions are typically 50 minutes in length and billed at $160.00 per hour. It’s important to note that  additional time is also spent outside of sessions to update notes, plan treatment, and prepare for upcoming appointments. While you are billed for the session time, there is much more work happening behind the scenes.

Additional services outside of regular counselling sessions, such as report writing, telephone consultation, letters, and form completion may be billed at the rate per hour.

Frequently asked questions

If you are unable to find the answer to the question you have, please be sure to email me or ask me in session. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have!

Do you direct bill?

Unfortunately I am unable to direct bill. Please check your benefit provider plan to ensure that a Certified Canadian Counsellor or Clinical Counsellor is covered. You should be able to get full reimbursement back after submitting your receipt.

What is a Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC)?

Although the term counsellor is not yet regulated in the Province of Alberta, Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCCs) require a master’s degree in counselling, psychology, or a related field as the minimum educational requirement to be certified with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association (CCPA). The CCPA is a national association that recognizes and identifies counsellors who are qualified to provide counselling and psychotherapy services to individuals, couples, families, and groups in Canada. CCCs also adhere to professional standards and a code of ethics established by the CCPA.

Are Canadian Certified Counsellors (CCC) regulated in AB?

Although counselling therapists are not currently regulated in the Province of Alberta, it is a consideration that the profession may be under the guidance and collaboration of Association of Counselling Therapy of Alberta (ACTA) and the College of Alberta Psychologists (CAP).

What are the fees for therapy?

Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC): $160 per hour.

What forms of payment are accepted?

At this time I take credit card, debit card or Interact e-transfer (info@thebeesknees.ca).

A valid credit card needs to be retained on file as well.

What if I miss a session?

As a client, you are responsible for the full payment of sessions, including missed sessions or those cancelled in less than the 24 hour window. Any outstanding charges will be processed to the card on file unless prior arrangements have been made. This policy is standard for any service-based business.

What if I'm unable to pay?

If financial concerns are a barrier to therapy, we can explore alternative options or refer you to a suitable provider.

How do I know if I have coverage for a counsellor?

It is your responsibility to check with your insurance provider before booking to determine which type of therapist is covered under your plan; and the amount of coverage you have. Coverage varies from person to person and plan to plan. A Canadian Certified Counsellor may be referred to as a Certified Counsellor or a Clinical Counsellor.

Why do I need a valid credit card or debit card on file?

A valid credit card or debit card is required on file to reserve your appointment. This does not automatically charge your card for the session; you may opt to pay via other methods as listed. However, we reserve the right to cancel or refuse service if a valid payment method is not on file.

What is the cancellation policy?

Counselling services are in high demand, and I strive to ensure that individuals who need therapy can schedule sessions with me My time is also valuable! Therefore, a minimum of 24-hours notice is required if you need to cancel or rebook a session.

While we understand that unexpected situations can arise, missed appointments or cancellations made with less than 24-hours notice will be charged for the full session time. Late cancels or missed sessions can leave gaps in my schedule and without enough notice, clients who want to get into a session are unable to. This policy is in place to respect my time and to allow clients on the waitlist the opportunity to be contacted with sufficient notice.
